A Brief History of the Kilt
Before diving into the contemporary-day attraction of kilts, it’s essential to apprehend their rich history. Kilts originated within the Scottish Highlands for the duration of the sixteenth century as a full-period garment called the "belted plaid." The traditional utility kilt, as we know it today, developed inside the early 18th century, becoming shorter and extra tailored to the wearer’s frame, which allowed for extra mobility. Worn through Highland warriors and Scottish clansmen, kilts represented a practical answer for shifting through the rugged terrain of Scotland while also showcasing the wearer’s allegiance to a specific clan via the tartan sample of the cloth.
In the 21st century, kilts are still worn in formal settings like weddings, Highland video games, and army parades, however they're additionally being embraced as an elegant opportunity to wear pants and jeans. Whether made from traditional woolen tartan or cutting-edge fabrics like denim, kilts have come to be extra versatile than ever.

For a fluffy bird there was much that was unpleasant about the Scotch mist. It was exceedingly wet, it was dismally dark, it obscured his view of mountains and sea, and, if he spent much time in the open, it had a decidedly dampening effect on Algy's fluffiness, reducing his feathers to a soggy, cold, bedraggled mass.
However, if the mist came down on a calm day, it did have one truly beautiful effect: it decorated the world with glistening droplets that sparkled in the subdued light as though every leaf, twig and flower had been suddenly adorned with a garland of tiny jewels.
Ignoring the increasing saturation of his tail feathers, Algy reclined on the grass and gazed in wonder at the temporary miracle wrought by the mist. For a moment he forgot just how dreadfully wet it was, and marvelled at the beauty of what a famous author had so aptly called "dream-drapery":
Low-anchored cloud, Newfoundland air, Fountain-head and source of rivers, Dew-cloth, dream-drapery, And napkin spread by fays; Drifting meadow of the air, Where bloom the daisied banks and violets, And in whose fenny labyrinth The bittern booms and heron wades; Spirit of lakes and seas and rivers,— Bear only perfumes and the scent Of healing herbs to just men’s fields.
[Algy is quoting the poem Mist by the 19th century American author Henry David Thoreau.]

Just imagining Japan wearing one of those t-shirts with Scottish town names on, and Scotland stopping dead in his tracks wondering why he’s wearing a top that says like Falkirk on it, and America just taps him on the shoulder like “you get used to it.”

In Scottish and Northern English folklore, a shellycoat is a type of bogeyman that haunts rivers and streams. The name comes from the coat of shells these creatures are said to wear, which rattle upon movement. Many places on the coast of Scotland have names that reference the shellycoat. Supposedly, shellycoats are particularly fond of the area around the River Hermitage.
Shellycoats are considered to be relatively harmless; they may mislead wanderers, particularly those they think are trespassing upon the creature's territory, but without malice. A common tactic of a shellycoat would be to cry out as if drowning and then laugh at the distracted victim.
